Resumo: The Background-oriented Schlieren (BOS) method is used in this work to evaluate the dimensions of a perfume spray profile. With the intention of investigate the best combination of capture environment, the technique was applied to scenarios where the background (striped, randomly distributed dots and image) and the lighting conditions (daylight, horizon light and fluorescent) were varied. Each test was recorded with a video camera, and after selecting the reference and interest frames, the absolute saturation subtraction technique was applied to the images. Subsequently the resulting image was passed through a smoothing filter. The results showed that the combination of striped background with fluorescent illumination was the closest, with a bias of approximately 2%, to the result obtained through the conventional method, which uses a bulkhead to capture the approximate profile of the spray and subsequent calculation of the angle. The illumination horizon light, on the other hand, did not allow the visualization of the spray for any of the backgrounds used. The BOS technique proved to be an important tool in evaluating the performance of perfumery items.

Resumo: The main purpose of packaging is to keep the product protected from external actions, contamination, and leakage. Therefore, they must be designed to deliver undamaged products to the customer, even after transportation and handling. The main damage is caused by the vibratory forces that occur during transportation. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify and analyse the vibration that occurs during road transport in a semi-trailer truck. The route selected was between Grupo Boticario’s factory in São José dos Pinhais (PR) and its distribution center in São Gonçalo dos Campos (Bahia), totalling around 1930 km. Thusly, it was possible to reproduce the same damage caused in an accelerated laboratory-scale test. The results showed that the vibration levels, and consequently the damage caused, vertically were higher than the lateral and longitudinal levels, as expected. This study allowed the definition of the parameters for the transportation simulator test carried out in package development and validation.

Resumo: The calibrations or checking of mass standards with nominal values greater than 10 kg and high accuracy class require special attention to the environmental conditions stability due to the their volume. The equipment used to calibrate this kind of mass standards usually has a weighing chamber (in this case a glass campanula or bell jar) to avoid, at least to reduce, the effects of environmental changes. In this study will be present the effects of these weighing campanulas on the standard deviations and in mass measurements results using only the internal tare (without weights in the balance plate) and using two 10 kg test weights.

Palavras-chave: Mechanical Properties of Polystyrene , Sulfonated Graphene Oxide Composite
Resumo: Composite materials are intended to provide a material with different and optimized mechanical, chemical, and physical-chemical properties in relation to its constituents. The aim of this work is to evaluate the mechanical properties of a composite that uses polystyrene as the matrix and the reinforcements used are of two types: sulfonated graphene oxide and graphite ones. The mechanical properties of composite materials obtained by tensile testing were compared with that one of pure polystyrene. Thus, it was possible to observe that some formulations presented better mechanical properties that were able to generate a material with greater degradability in the environment.
